Filipe Camarão, indígena, guerrilheiro, nacionalista

Filipe Camarão foi um chefe guerrilheiro indígena. Chefiou tropas na luta contra os invasores holandeses. Guerreou de Pernambuco à Paraíba e na primeira Batalha de Guararapes (1648), recebendo o título de dom. Nasceu por volta de 1600, na Capitania do Rio Grande (atualmente, Rio Grande do Norte), e morreu em 1648, no Recife (PE). Índio potiguar, chamado Poti em sua tribo. Convertido ao cristianismo, recebeu o nome de Antônio Filipe pelos jesuítas que o educaram, numa homenagem a Filipe IV, rei da Espanha.
Filipe Camarão foi citada por Ulysses Guimarães, na sessão de promulgação da Constituinte de 1988, em 5 de outubro. “O Estado encarnado na metrópole resignara-se ante a invasão holandesa no Nordeste.
