A estrada era estreita, tinha muita poeira nos tempos de seca e muita lama nas temporadas de chuva. No meio do caminho, havia um povoado chamado Soberbo, que de soberbo não tinha nada, era pura simplicidade. Havia uma pracinha de terra batida, alguns postes de madeira com lâmpadas de 40 watts, pouco mais de uma dúzia de casas e um armazém que vendia Alpargatas 7 Vidas, disso me lembro bem.

Nessa pracinha, havia um casarão com uma varanda enorme, bem típico do interior de Minas Gerais. Uma escada de pedras tortas, portas e janelas compridas, que eram fechadas com tramelas. Um porão sombrio, onde galinhas caipiras faziam os seus ninhos e morcegos passavam o dia dormindo.

Olá pessoal!!

Como tirar a espinha do peixe da boca, onde apoiar os talheres depois da refeição… Mesmo quem costuma participar de jantares e eventos formais pode ter dúvidas sobre como se comportar à mesa. Siga as dicas abaixo e aprenda como agir nessas e em outras situações para se sentir tranquilo e confiante em qualquer ocasião!

Antes de começar a refeição, apoie o guardanapo de pano sobre as pernas. Já o de papel deve ficar ao lado do prato..
Coloque pequenas porções de comida no garfo.
Coma devagar. Dê intervalos, apoie os talheres na borda do prato, converse e, depois, volte a comer.
Lembre-se: nunca fale de boca cheia!
Cuidado para não fazer barulho ao tomar líquidos, como café ou sopa. É muito feio!
Jamais coloque os cotovelos sobre a mesa. Apoie apenas os antebraços ou os punhos.
Em festas com buffets, você pode repetir a comida sempre…

Few things are more awesome than listening to kids playing on the playground. There’s magic in that mix of laughter and exhausted breaths — giggle, pant, giggle.

Just the other Saturday at Maplewood’s Memorial Park, I was watching my 5-year-old playing with his friends from day care. The kids have just started kindergarten and are now split up among four schools. Some industrious mom had the idea to get them together again.

It was a great idea. It was also the moment when I saw the messy birth of my son’s otherness.

They were playing on one of those spinning things — you know, the one where kids learn about centrifugal force and as a bonus get crazy dizzy. They were having a blast.

“Only white people,” said a little girl.

I heard it, but I wasn’t quite sure that’s what I heard.
