The Write Stuff

Found this in a news article:

Several cyber attacks disrupted Web traffic on the East Coast Friday, shutting down access to some of the Web’s most popular sites and frustrating their users.

A slew of major sites including Twitter, Netflix, and Spotify were affected by what was described as a DDoS, or a distributed denial of service attack, on the Internet services company Dyn.

Sites taken down by the DDoS attack today:

• Twitter
• SoundCloud
• Spotify
• Netflix
• Reddit

UNTIL THE END

UNTIL THE END

Submerged in the depths of my misery
I see no light nor exit,
but I resist to abandon myself
in the Entropy’s welcoming arms
as such an easy defeat

after having fought against my own personal enemies,
I shall not surrender so easily
I’ll keep on fighting until the end,
as I am Life
and as such,
I shall live with dignity until my day comes,
when I’ll leave this world
with empty hands
but a soul full of love and courage.

A Teacher's Reflections

Each year I host a party for children and their families, and every year it creates magic– not the storybook or pretend magic, but something very real.

Families gather with their children when school closes and have a pizza party on the playground.  That event alone is incredibly exciting for young children.  This year the weather was warm for New England, approaching 70 degrees.  It was also foggy.  Perfect for what was about to happen!

We carved pumpkins into Jack-O-Lanterns.  That took quite a while; plenty of time for families to get to know each other, and plenty of time for each child and family to spend time together, doing something really fun.  Yet, it was far more than fun.

Darkness descended and transformed carving pumpkins into another world of wonder and splendor.  Imagine what it must be like for a child to be at school in the dark.  When…

Friday happy dance

October 21, 2016 15:56, by O LADO ESCURO DA LUA

bluebird of bitterness

Yesterday was the birthday of the elder of The Nicholas Brothers, Fayard (1914-2006), who along with his younger brother Harold (1921-2000) enjoyed a long and successful career on stage and screen. As a little boy Fayard watched famous vaudeville performers (including Bill “Bojangles” Robinson) at the theater where his parents were employed as musicians, and taught himself to sing and dance by imitating the pros. Harold learned by imitating his big brother. Soon they were performing together on stage, first at the Standard Theater in Philadelphia, then at Harlem’s Cotton Club — where the boys, then aged 11 and 18, worked with bandleaders like Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington. They went on to enjoy success on Broadway, in Hollywood, on television, and on tours of Latin America, Europe, and Africa. They even taught master classes in tap dance at Harvard — not bad for a couple of guys who’d never had any formal…
