Withstanding Life’s Wreckage

Life’s storm blows in from elsewhere.
She’s wrung out,
Washed up
By a swollen sea.
Breakers bear down,
Rolling in interminable hosts,
Torrents of foamy ghosts,
The only sounds of wind
And her wails:
Her mast is broken,
Jerking in a tangle of rigging and sails.
With Morpheus’ help, she dives under
And drifts into slumber,
Sails straight back
Into the raging tempest
Of another nightmare,
Clinging to the deck
Amid broken shards of sleep
And dawn’s shipwreck of sheets.
Stirred by keening gulls,
Light playing through her window
Encrusted with barnacle sparkles
Of salt and sun,
She surfaces,
Lifts languid limpet lids,
Remembers she has to walk the dog
And make breakfast for the kids.

POSTCARD #224: New Delhi: Learning how to sleep without the pain meds and all those chemicals that used to help me so much before, but I’m just left there thinking about things in the darkness. Stories come and go, pondering over this and that, and the awareness of being caught up in the thinking thing gets included in the wandering. Searching for a way out, but if I think about how to stop thinking, the mind gets busy looking for a solution; finding something and comparing it with other reasons why I can’t stop thinking. Thinking has its own momentum, takes time for it to slow down, there’s the opportunity to allow it all to fizzle out. Everything evaporates for a moment.

Uganda: Governo Impede Parada Do Orgulho LGBT

O Governo do Uganda, mais uma vez, ameaçou activistas LGBT que seriam presos se organizassem e participassem numa parada de Orgulho ou qualquer outro evento com temática LGBT.
Simon Lokodo, ironicamente, Ministro de Ética e Integridade do Governo do Uganda afirmou publicamente que o evento do Orgulho LGBT infrinja Código Penal do país que proíbe sexo gay e a promoção do mesmo.
Pior ainda, o próprio Ministro relaciona o activismo gay meramente com atos de pedofilia e prostituição. O Ministro afirmou à AP (Associated Press):
Estamos cientes de que existem incentivos, incluindo dinheiro, a ser oferecido aos jovens para promover a prática [homossexual].
Simon Lokodo ainda referiu que esta medida é apenas para não promover a homossexualidade no Uganda, sendo que, segundo ele, não promove a violência contra a comunidade LGBT.

Mês Internacional das Bibliotecas Escolares 2016
A biblioteca escolar faz parte do nosso mundo e se olharmos para ela com atenção, se percebermos o seu funcionamento, se a descodificarmos, seremos capazes de ter ideias que ajudem a torná-la (ainda) melhor.
“Aprende a descodificar o teu mundo”
Este é o tema definido pela International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) para este mês de outubro, o Mês Internacional das Bibliotecas Escolares (MIBE).
Para 2016, o Gabinete da Rede de Bibliotecas Escolares estabelece 24 de outubro como Dia da Biblioteca Escolar em Portugal.
