I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy this film, because reports all had it as being a very slow drama. I’m OK with slow, but not so much with very slow. But I was pleasantly surprised. It’s the story of three women in small town America, whose lives softly intersect each other. One wants to build her dream home, another is a lonely lecturer who makes a friend and a third is a lawyer whose client doesn’t take her advice and ends up on the wrong end of the law.
It stars three very strong performances from it’s leads, Kristen Stewart, Michelle Williams and Laura Dern are all really good in this film. They are fascinating as they keep your eyes glued to them. But what I really loved about this film is the things it says without saying…

Chi mi frequenta sa che – ormai – sono, più o meno, un vecchio signore malandato, mugugnatore intorno a quasi ogni questione pubblica, come se avessi sempre in tasca la soluzione a tutti i problemi che il governo non sa risolvere. In particolare, in molti, mi hanno sentito affermare di aver indirizzato al Governo italiano, guidato all’epoca da Silvio Berlusconi (pluri incriminato e pluri condannato), con, al Ministero degli Esteri, Gianfranco Fini (inquisito e prossimo alla condanna), alla Difesa Cesare Previti (condannatissimo!) al Ministero dell’Interno Giuseppe Pisanu un documento pre-veggente intitolato “Verranno anche a nuoto”, incentrato sulla facile previsione che le ondate immigratorie fuori controllo sarebbero state il principe dei problemi del futuro di questo già troppo tormentato Paese mediterraneo. Quasi tutto quello che è scritto in questo blog è opera della mia “inclinazione a mentire” (quasi come un Berlusconi o un Renzi qualunque) ma non questa affermazione: ho…
