I catalog hundreds of new picture books each year, and I read as many of them as I can. Unfortunately, I can’t review them all. But I can share them! Below are a few recent titles. (Summaries have been taken directly from the books whenever possible.) Check your local library or bookstore for availability.

All in one day
from sunrise to sunset.
Invigoration on a cool, brisk early morning walk
chatting with a friend and accompanied by a faithful, furry companion.
Fulfillment baking a batch of pumpkin spice and chocolate chip cookies
to stash away and pull out to share with guests or to surprise a weary delivery person.
Accomplishment in completing important, but mundane household chores
like sweeping and washing and drying and folding.
Replenishment of soul and spirit by taking a short break to
relax in the unexpected warmth of the Autumn sunshine.

Lígia Guimarães (Valor, 21/09/17) informa que, nas últimas décadas, a enorme distância que historicamente existe entre a renda dos brasileiros mais ricos e dos mais pobres mudou bem menos do que os não especialistas imaginavam há até pouco tempo. Estudos recentes, que utilizam dados do Imposto de Renda para medir melhor o quanto ganham os mais ricos do que as tradicionais pesquisas domiciliares , indicam que a desigualdade de renda total (trabalho e capital) não caiu nos anos 2000 — ou, se houve queda, foi muito modesta.
Ocorreu, sim, avanço social expressivo no período. Entre 2007 e 2015, por exemplo, a renda cresceu para todas as faixas de renda da população. O que ocorreu, e parece explicar porque a desigualdade continua estável, é que enquanto a pobreza despencava e os mais pobres ampliavam o acesso a bens e serviços públicos, a renda dos mais ricos aumentava em ritmo ainda…
