The Love of a Thousand Muskoxen: Grieving a Love Lost to Time and Sickness

At two in the morning in mid-July, I sat cross-legged, my hands full of lichen, waiting for the caribou to come.
It was my second to last summer in Fairbanks, Alaska, and the light outside was what most people associate with dawn. I wore shorts and a hooded sweatshirt. I sat as still as possible. When the small herd started towards me, I looked back at Whitney for reassurance. He stood about twenty feet behind me in the fenced enclosure, hips cocked to one side, his frame lanky and thin despite his baggy pants and sweatshirt. When he smirked at me, something shifted in my chest.
He was just a teenager—19 and about to begin his second year in a private college on the east coast. I was five years older. I felt so much wiser. We were…

Lessons
27 de Novembro de 2016, 12:40Lessons engraved into the mind and heart.
A Poem by Coyote Poetry
Life is learning to be wiser and kinder.
The hollow hour leave me alone with my thoughts.
Hidden guilt and despair ascent when the faces of people gone appear.
Ancient memories changed direction of my life and song.
After years of running toward a road with dead-ends only.
I found out why I should have been kinder, knew forgiveness and held love
over my dreams and wrong priorities.
Today I look at my life filled with many victories and
the gift of love wasn’t one of them.
Today I wished I truly knew the people who needed kindness.
I wished I knew what their skin deep pain and fear was .
Instead of demanding strength and purpose.
I understood too late for my brothers to listen instead of lecture.

Going Sideways
27 de Novembro de 2016, 12:36Regular readers of this blog will know that I’m a big fan of the Strong Towns movement, a supporter of Urban 3, and an admirer of the Incremental Development Alliance. These three overlapping groups describe how centuries of trial and error all over the world produced remarkably fine grained durable self sustaining communities.
They also explain why our post World War II development pattern is proving to be a fatally flawed insolvent and unstable experiment. And they show us how we can get back to a steady footing again with a return to traditional communities. But there’s a problem… As a society we’re too emotionally invested in the strip mall and cul-de-sac landscape we’ve built. We can’t imagine what anything else would look like. People immediately panic and envision communist style high rise concrete towers and impoverished ghettos. No one ever pictures a classic Norman Rockwell Main Street neighborhood –…

Em verdade vos digo
27 de Novembro de 2016, 12:35“Nós conhecemos a verdade não só pela razão mas também pelo coração” (Blaise Pascal, Pensées).
House of Fabergé. Gatchina Palace. 1901.
“If you believe is real”.
Marca: Unicenter. Título: Polygraph. Agência: TBWA (Buenos Aires). Direcção: Javier Nir, Pablo Fisherman. Argentina, Novembro 2016.
