Everspace trailer teases "imminent" alpha

As evidenced by its last trailer, Everspace is looking gorgeous. Described by Rockfish as a “3D space shooter with rogue-like elements and non-linear storytelling”, the structure seems similar in some ways to FTL. You have to get to the end of a sector without exploding as the game throws varying challenges at your ship.
Unlike FTL, there will be a lot of permanent progression in the form of ship upgrades you can install between each run. This graph shows how that will work, promising “flashbacks”, “narratives” and “lore” in addition to resource gathering.
There is more detail on the game’s website. You can pre-purchase access to the alpha directly from Rockfish. According to the latest Kickstarter update, the alpha launch is “imminent”, and includes three spaceships, four sectors, 20 “devices and consumables” and 32 unlockable perks for ship upgrades.
It’s a space game in 2016 so, naturally, VR is part of the package. There will be work-in-progress Rift support during the alpha, and Vive support when it moves to beta in the summer.

Playtonic Reveals Yooka-Laylee Demo Coming To Kickstarter Backers This July, And More

The Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor, Yooka-Laylee, had a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign last year and surpassed all of its stretch goals. It’s been quiet since, but Playtonic Games has now come forward with more gameplay details for the platformer, as well as announcing that a playable demo for Kickstarter backers is arriving this July.
For backers that pledged towards high enough tiers, they will be given access to a short demo called The Toybox, which Playtonic describes in their blog post as a “significant chunk of playable content” and a “spoiler-free sandbox.”
The developer also gives details regarding the supporting cast the duo Yooka and Laylee will encounter on their journey. This includes Dr. Puzz, a “multi-limbed scientist,” and her colleague Dr. Quack. One of the major baddies is Capital B, a corporate mogul who is also a bee.
Quills will be one of Yooka-Laylee’s many collectible items, and Playtonic explained that these can be used as currency to unlock new moves. “Using the hundreds of collectible Quills discovered during their travels, the buddy-duo will purchase and unlock moves from the serpent salesman Trowzer, which they can choose to do in virtually any order that the player decides.”

Presumably in celebration of PlayStation Music’s one-year anniversary, Spotify–which powers the service–is offering a pretty sweet deal on its Premium subscription package.
New and existing Spotify members can now get three months of Premium for just 99 cents. The one catch, and it’s a big one, is that the offer is only available to people who have not previously gotten a trial of Spotify Premium.
You can grab the deal here–you must redeemed by June 30. Official terms and conditions for the offer can be seen here. Premium normally goes for $10/month.
PlayStation Music is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and other Sony devices. A Premium Spotify membership gets you extras like offline play and no ads. You can also listen to tracks while gaming, which is proving popular, as people streamed 5 billion songs through PlayStation Music in its first year.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, PlayStation senior marketing manager Carrie Surtees said PlayStation Music has been a massive hit on PSN.
“Thanks to you, Spotify has become one of the most downloaded apps in PlayStation history, and together we’ve reached more than five billion streams,” Surtees said. “Now, we’re excited to introduce our music-loving players to another level of listening.”
Background music support is also coming to Xbox One through a future update, though it remains to be seen if this will be done through a partnership with Spotify or by leveraging Microsoft’s own Groove service. For its part,Sony has said Spotify may not be exclusive to PlayStation forever.
