Stardew Valley Patch Improves Marriage and Friendship

April 5, 2016 18:09, by FGR* Blog

If you think marriage isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be, then a new Stardew Valley patch may make it better for you–though only in the game itself. The patch improves marriage, in addition to fruit trees, friendship, and charcoal kilns.

Developer ConcernedApe posted the notes to the Steam Community page. The patch will make it so spouses have unique dialogue during festivals, and your in-laws will address the marriage as well. Most importantly, your spouse will now stand next to you at the Dance of the Moonlight Jellies, a festival that features jellyfish migration.

Friendship is improved by no longer decaying when you’ve reached the maximum level, and the last two hearts of marriage candidates will now be greyed-out until given the bouquet.

Higher quality fruit will be produced as fruit trees age, and like Animal Crossing, you’ll now have to shake the tree to harvest the fruit. Charcoal kilns now only require 10 wood to make coal as opposed to 20 before the patch.

Some of the bug fixes include snow yams not appearing in the desert, farm animals no longer getting stuck on fences, and chests not appearing on top of you in bed after finishing a house upgrade.

You can check out the full list of changes and fixes below:

Gameplay

  • Spouses now say unique dialogues during festivals (most of the time), rather than the generic handful of dialogues
  • Spouse stands next to you at the Dance of the Moonlight Jellies
  • In-law dialogue… when you marry someone, their parents/relatives dialogues will change slightly to account for the change
  • Sam, Sebastian, and Abigail now go to the saloon on fridays after you marry them.
  • Spouses won’t leave on rainy days, unless they have to go to work.
  • Fruit trees produce higher quality fruit as they age. (once per year, up to gold star)
  • Fruit tree harvesting now involves shaking the tree to drop the fruit
  • Lightning strikes now have a unique effect on fruit trees
  • Lightning is more likely to strike trees and crops, but lightning rods now have a very good chance of intercepting lightning strikes (if they aren’t already processing a lightning bolt)
  • Charcoal Kiln now requires 10 wood to produce 1 coal, down from 20
  • Maxed-out friendship levels will no longer decay
  • Added another digit to the shipping menu money counters.
  • Dying in mines is less harsh: money lost caps at 5000g, rate of item loss reduced, can’t lose rings or the
  • Your assigned movement keys are now used within Journey Of The Prairie King
  • You can now retrieve powerups and coins that drop on the edge of the map in Journey Of The Prairie King
  • The last two hearts are now greyed-out for marriage candidates until you give them the bouquet
  • Willy now likes most fish dishes
  • Adventurer’s Guild now sells monster slayer rewards after you’ve unlocked them (you still get the free reward)
  • Hardware mouse cursor option

Bug Fixes

  • Tools left in chests within farm buildings won’t count as “missing”
  • Poppy properly consumed in poppyseed muffin recipe
  • Can no longer incorrectly “consume” trap bobbers (click to make them disappear with strange sound)
  • Agriculturist profession no longer causes an extra 25% growth rate when speed-gro isn’t present. Speed increase effects should now properly apply to very slow-growing crops.
  • Fixed sunflower seed price at JojaMart
  • Chests should no longer appear on top of you in bed after upgrading your house.
  • Item placement with the gamepad improved, and there is now an option to show an item placement indicator
  • Snow yams shouldn’t appear in the desert anymore
  • Sea Cucumber should properly appear in the fishing tab of the Shipping menu
  • Farm animals should no longer get stuck on fences placed directly to the right of the barn door.
  • Various minor bug fixes.
  • Minor changes/fixes to dialogue

Hack Brief: Turkey Breach Spills Info on More Than Half Its Citizens

April 5, 2016 15:40, by FGR* Blog

The nation of Turkey has been reeling from terrorist bombings in its biggest cities, a teeming refugee crisis, and a president who wants to rewrite its constitution to give himself more power. Now, in the midst of those calamities, it’s also been hit with what appears to be an enormous data breach, one that affects the majority of the country’s citizens.

The Hack

On Monday, an unnamed hacker posted to the web a 1.4 gigabyte compressed bittorrent file that appears to contain personal data on 50 million Turkish citizens, including their names, addresses, parents’ first names, cities of birth, birth dates, and a national identifier number used by the Turkish government, all of which were verified as authentic by the Associated Press. The leak also included a taunting message referring to sloppy data protections and a hardcoded password that allowed the entire unencrypted database to be siphoned from the Turkish government’s servers.

“Who would have imagined that backwards ideologies, cronyism and rising religious extremism in Turkey would lead to a crumbling and vulnerable technical infrastructure?” reads a statement on the site hosting the leaked data. “Do something about [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan! He is destroying your country beyond recognition.”

The hacker or hackers behind the breach seem to be American, based on another comment they posted with the leaked data referring to presidential candidate Donald Trump: “Lessons for the US? We really shouldn’t elect Trump,” it reads. “That guy sounds like he knows even less about running a country than Erdogan does.”

Turkey’s government, for its part, has downplayed the leak as an “old story,” arguing that the data had actually been first leaked in 2010—though critics counter that the data wasn’t actually posted online in a decrypted form until now. “This issue is brought to the agenda from time to time. It is now being served like a new story. These outdated reports are not newsworthy,” Turkish Communications Minister Binali Yildirim told reporters at a press conference Tuesday, according to the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet. But he simultaneously acknowledged that “cyber threats” were a growing problem and that the government would create a seven-person council to bolster the country’s protections of personal data.

Who’s Affected, and How Serious is This?

The dumped data does seem to be from 2008 and doesn’t include credit numbers, email addresses or passwords. But its sheer scale represents a potential privacy nightmare for Turkish citizens: With Turkey’s population numbering around 80 million, the leak covers more than half the country. And even data like addresses and birth dates can serve as a starting point for identity theft in the hands of hackers who manage to cross-reference the breach with other stolen data.

As for the government’s claims about the data’s age, that’s little comfort, says Isik Mater, a Turkish privacy activist and president of Alternative Informatics Association. “I searched my name on the list and reached all my family data,” she writes to WIRED. “It doesn’t matter if the data is from 2008 because I still have the same name, same last name, same home address and obviously the same national ID number so it means that, the leak data is up-to-date for me and for lots of other people which makes the leak very, very serious.”

Mater discounts the Turkish government’s claim that the breach is “old news,” arguing that the 2010 breach it referred to was far more limited: She points to a Hürriyet report from the time that describes a crime ring selling an even larger version of the database privately, but not dumping it on the internet. “Probably some law firms and real estate agencies used the [data] secretly,” Mater says. But the data wasn’t online until last month, she adds, when she says a hacker known as TheCthulhu posted an encrypted version of it.

It’s not yet apparent how or if that same hacker was involved in the latest leak of the fully decrypted database. But it’s clear that now that the database has been leaked again in a more far more accessible form—WIRED was able to download the full database in minutes—this national scale privacy breach for Turkish citizens has gone from an underground leak to a full-on, mass data disaster.

EVGA now offering low power versions of GeForce GTX 950

April 5, 2016 14:07, by FGR* Blog

EVGA GeForce GTX 950

One thing you can count on from EVGA is that it’s going to offer in the neighborhood of half a dozen different SKUs for any particular model graphics card, sometimes more. That includes EVGA’s now 14 different SKUs of the somewhat spunky GeForce GTX 950. The newest of those models don’t require a 6-pin power connector.

The number of GeForce GTX 950 cards in EVGA’s stable ballooned to 14 with the introduction of eight new “low power” models, including four versions that don’t need to be plugged into the power supply—they draw enough juice from the PCIe slot.

Needing a 6-pin PEG connector is one of the few complaints we had with the GTX 950 when we reviewed it last year. It’s still a decent option for 1080p gaming, especially now that EVGA is offering a handful of SKUs that needn’t be fed directly from the PSU, which should help with cable management.

On the flip side, pulling additional power from the PSU can improve stability and improve overclocking performance, though there’s only so much to be gained from the GTX 950.

Here’s a look at the new models:

EVGA Low Power GTX 950 Chart

Most of the new cards are available now with prices starting at $140, save for the 02G-P4-0954 SKU, which is listed as “coming soon” on EVGA’s website.

Osiris – Serverless Portal System

April 5, 2016 14:01, by FGR* Blog
