Reflections on the 2017 United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. In his opening remarks, the UN Secretary-General said that 20 years ago “there was the idea that globalization would not only increase global wealth, but that it would trickle-down and would benefit everybody in our planet”.

He went on to describe that at the present time, “globalization and technological progress have dramatically increased global trade and global wealth. It is true that the number of absolute poor has been reduced and that living conditions have improved all over the world but it is also true that globalization and technological progress together have been factors in the increase of inequality”.

Los días Viernes 21 y sábado 22 de julio 2017, miembros del messe de todas las regiones del país, participaron en el SEMINARIO TALLER: LA ECONOMÍA SOCIAL Y SOLIDARIA: CONCEPTOS Y PRÁCTICAS (con especial referencia a Ecuador), organizado por el Centro de Investigaciones CIUDAD, en la Casa de Espiritualidad “Nuestra Señora del Quinche” / QUITO.

Participó como expositor el Dr. José Luis Coraggio, uno de los principales investigadores de la economía solidaria en América Latina y actual director académico de la maestría en Economía Social de la Universidad Nacional General Sarmiento, de Argentina.

El objetivo del evento fue la de procurar un espacio para reflexionar acerca de la situación actual de la economía social y solidaria en el país, y se llegaron a acuerdos como:

Avanzar desde todos los espacios que han generado las diversas organizaciones que han participado en el Encuentro, con el fin de ir construyendo juntos los principales principios que deben cumplir las nuevas prácticas y experiencias de una verdadera economía social y solidaria. Mantenernos en contacto y en permanente intercambio de las experiencias entre todos/as las y los participantes.

LA AGENDA DEL EVENTO:

Primera sesión, viernes 21 de agosto, 10-13hs

Los conceptos teóricos. Los diversos sentidos usuales y posibles de los términos: economía social, economía solidaria, economía social y solidaria, economía popular, economía popular y solidaria. Economía del trabajo y subjetividad.

Segunda sesión, viernes 21 de agosto, 14:00-17:00

14:00-15:30 La economía popular en un sistema de economía mixta. La economía popular solidaria. Las propuestas constitucionales de Ecuador, Bolivia y Venezuela y la institucionalización de las prácticas efectivas, con mención a Argentina y Brasil. Los problemas de la delimitación empírica de la EPS.

15:30-17.30 Talleres de elaboración grupal (depende del número de participantes si se hace uno sólo o varios) y debate en plenaria.

Tercera sesión, sábado 22 de agosto, 10-13 hs

Niveles de acción y articulación de las prácticas de ESS: micro, meso, macro y sistémico. Lo territorial. Necesidades y satisfactores. Las prácticas de promoción y las formas de la economía popular solidaria. De la política pública a la Política: la cuestión del sujeto de la ESS. Qué hacer en la coyuntura actual? (con especial referencia a Ecuador)

Cuarta sesión, sábado 22 de agosto, 14:00-17:30

Human rights crisis in Venezuela

The measures adopted by the Venezuelan government, in the context of the election of the Constituent Assembly and protests by those who question it, further aggravated the human rights situation in that country.

On July 30, the government again responded with violence to demonstrations against it. On this occasion, ten people died, raising the number of people killed in protest situations to 119 in the last four months.

According to investigations by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, a considerable percentage of these deaths resulted from shots fired by police and military officials. Other deaths are due to the actions of armed civilian groups that respond both to sectors of the opposition that propose an insurrectionary response and to para-state groups. In situations of protest, the state response must be based on the principle of protecting life; this emanates from states’ international human rights obligations.
