The first Show, Tell and Talk of the PSCT 2014 brought some possibilites about the relationship between science, young people, communication and magazines. The first of them was the case of Science Today and the increasing interaction using social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.
Marcelo Pereira Garcia, from Science Today Institute, presented the strategies that the magazine has adopted to get 300.000 likes on Facebook and improve their shared content. Check them:
- Make publications on Saturdays and Sundays. According to Marcelo, the audience in week days and weekends are very similar. Another ideia is to use the weekends to republic week's highlights and posts thet he believes deserves a "second chance".
-To post at least 4 times a day. For Marcelo, is important to observate the constant Facebook's changes in post-delivery polices.
About his research, he presented the following conclusions:
- More constant presence in social networks is important
- a little bit of sense of humor is wellcome, when it is possible
- Growth based in quality and relevance of content, not only memes and funny stuff
- There is no golden rules to be followed - every publication/institution has to find its own dynamic in social networks.
